At 20 years old, Loverly Ink’s Lindsay Harvey is the youngest finalist of this year’s NEXT BIG THING! Her parents named her after Lindsay Wagner, the bionic woman, so “super” kinda just comes naturally to her… She sews, crafts, photographs, prints, works a lab coat like nobody’s business and her sawsome pouch rocks the new cut of cute! Read on to learn more.
You started Loverly Ink last year in college, yeah?
Yes, I began about a year ago from my college dorm room at UCLA making and selling bags, pouches, and whatever else I came up with. I opened a shop on Etsy and after I listed my first item, it was gone. I thought I had made a mistake, but in fact someone had bought it, so I thought I had something there.
What’s the best customer feedback you’ve ever received?
I once had someone send me a picture of themselves in a dress they had bought from me. It was like a super 80’s dress, complete with poofness and massive bows, that I had found at a vintage store and fixed/revamped. Secretly, I somewhat regret not keeping it for myself.
What inspired you to make the sawsome pouch?
I was inspired to make it because I was going through this industrial phase where I was at Home Depot way too much and was drawing screws and saws all over my notebooks. And so when I needed a new bag design, it was right there waiting for me.
Do you have any particular goals this year with Loverly Ink?
Gosh, I want to do so much, there’s just no time! I think it just comes down to making as many things as I possibly can. I’m a one woman show, so doing this takes quite a while. I’d love to continue making all sorts of fun little items and create a brand out of Loverly Ink. I’m also really interested in textile design and printing, so I would love to include making more of my own fabric, which would be totally awesome. I always have something going on in my head, it’s just a matter of time before something jumps out.
Last question… Are you good with tools? Ha ha!
Sure, I guess. I think I just like to pretend that I can actually use those big, manly power tools, but I eventually just end up hurting myself and yell for my boyfriend to finish whatever it was that I was making while I go find the first aid kit. Band-aids are my best friends. Also antiseptic. I think that there will always be a special place in my heart for power tools, but I definitely prefer felt pouch versions that won’t take up so much room in my bag.
